[Slides down so he's sitting on the floor with his back against the bed frame]

She can't hurt you right now.

[Is the response he gets, still from under the bed.]

[There's a rustling sound as she works herself out from under the bed, looking righteously indignant only the way a child can.]

"I'm not scared! Of nothin', and Adora's my friend, anyway!"

Is she? My apologies.

Well then - how about you're not going to get yelled at? Would you take that as a compromise since you're brave enough to not need anything else.

[She frowns, trying to work out what's up with this weird adult in front of her.]

"Okay. . .

. . .What do you want?"

It's not what I want. It's what you want. Do you know what that is?

"Me?"

[It looks like the question puzzles her.]

I don't want.

Then do you need something?

[She shakes her head slowly. Then she gets up, trailing across the room and hopping up on the top bunk to follow the thread and retrieve a cartridge. She brings it down over to the plushie and the other end of the thread to pull out a second cartridge, and then holds both up on the palms of her hands for him to take, if he wants.]

"I'm loss and regret."

[Reaches over to run his fingers through her hair.]

Do you want me to see these?

[purrrnicious]

[Her ear flicks, sensitive.]

"It's what you came to do, isn't it?"

It's an objective, yes.

But I also would rather you tell me when you were ready.

I'm here for you. Not for your memories.

[purrrnicious]

"Then I don't think it's me you wanna talk to."

[Is all she says to that.]

Who should I talk to instead?

"The True Core."

[Only now does she lower her hands with the cartridges.]

Can you tell me where she is?

[purrrnicious]

[She nods.]

"Um––the Prison. Go to the 5th floor. You gotta open least one door, then you can go to the 6th floor on the lift.

But you gotta get past the False Core first, and she's really mean. If you only do one door she'll probably get you, but if you do all three then you should be okay. The stairs are under the bed."

[Nods.

And then reaches out to hug the small child.

Cartridges be damned.]

[She seems very surprised, giving a light, brief purr as her tail swishes.]

[Leans back for a final hair ruffle before he gets to his feet]
